Postdoc within Value Creation by Energy Renovation and Transformation of the Built Environment 

Department of Engineering at Aarhus University, Denmark, has an open position in the Civil and Architectural Engineering Section for a 20 month Postdoc associated with the REVALUE research project. Starting date is 1. January 2018.

Future building renovation concerns more holistic perspectives related to the sustainability seen in a wider range of objectives/criteria facilitated by the renovation scenarios. This can only be achieved when stakeholders adopt the use of an equipped design methodology beside strategic approach while selecting the renovation approaches, although this could be a complex task for decision makers. Building Information Modeling (BIM) offers designers the ability to explore various design alternatives during the early design stage. As a method of integration and through its modeling techniques, BIM can be used to explore the impacts of renovation alternatives on various objectives/criteria i.e., energy efficiency, cost, indoor comfort etc.

The postdoc project will focus on implementation of a BIM based-Decision Support Systems (DSS) for generation of holistic renovation scenarios a fascinating and at the same time an intricate and challenging task. In this light, the present research is set up to address an integrated DSS to assess existing building conditions and to recommend an optimal set of renovation approaches, considering trade-offs between the various sustainability objectives/criteria. It considers development of a BIM-based DSS towards the integration of more objectives/criteria to combine appropriate renovation approaches and ultimately generation of holistic renovation scenarios at the early design stage.

Applicants should as a minimum hold a PhD degree.

The successful applicant has an architectural engineering or architeural background, and holds excellent technical knowledge related to BIM based Decision support systems, and holistic assessment models related to refurbishment in general.

Application procedure
Short-listing is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.
Formalities and salary range
Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
