Postdoc in micro-mechanics of surface failure with applications in tribology and micro-machining 
 
Applications are invited for a 2 year postdoctoral position with a background in computational solid mechanics. The focus of the project will be on micromechanics of failure in materials surface with applications in tribology and micro-machining. This research opportunity broadly involves development of physics-based computational approaches and systematic simulations for understanding the process of surface failure under different loading condition (e.g. indenting, scratching and sliding contact) as a function of surface geometry and material properties at various scales, ranging from atomic to continuum. The position is available from 1, January 2018 or as soon as possible hereafter.

An ideal candidate must have a strong background in computational mechanics, with a good knowledge of nonlinear solid mechanics and failure mechanisms, i.e. plasticity and fracture. Experience with molecular dynamics and finite element/discrete element simulations are required. Knowledge of tribology-related researches (i.e. friction and wear) will be a plus. The successful candidate is expected to conduct an ambitious research program and engage in the interdisciplinary research with local and international groups. Collaboration with industry will be seen as a natural part of the research activities. The initial appointment will be for one year with a possible one year extension depending on the performance.

Educational qualifications
The applicant must hold a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Physics, or a related discipline and has strong written and communication skills and a demonstrated publication record.

Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
