Open Science seminar: Composite Materials – how to combine the best of two worlds

The demands on materials with specific mechanical properties is huge. Sign up for this interesting Open Science seminar on composite materials by 26 March. Participation is free, but registration is necessary.

Info about event

Time

Thursday 28 March 2019,  at 10:00 - 14:00

Location

Mogens Zielerstuen, Frederik Nielsens Vej 2, 8000 Aarhus C

The demands on materials with specific mechanical properties is huge. To meet the demands, many industries use composite materials. It is, however, very important to have specific knowledge about the chosen composite material and understand its challenges in order to achieve the full advantages of the composite material. The mechanical properties and knowledge about mechanical fracture of the material may be crucial in the design of a product.

  • Michal Budzik, Dept. Eng. will introduce us to the mechanics of composite materials.
  • René Alderliesten, Technische Universiteit Delft will reflect on failure theories for composite delamination. René is an expert within the field of mechanical fractures and thus, he will introduce us to this aspect of designing composite materials.
  • Claus Burchardt, Siemens Gamesa will tell us about composite materials in wind turbine blades.
  • Two OS students, Andreas Laursen and Sisse Rasmussen will tell about their project of adding graphene into composite materials.

Last chance for registration is Tuesday March 26. Click here to register: https://events.au.dk/composites/sign-up.html
